What Is Communities That Care?

Communities That Care (CTC) is a risk-focused approach to reducing adolescent drug use and violence through community mobilization and planning. Local citizens and community leaders work together as the CTC for Youth Board to identify the risk factors that increase the likelihood of problem behaviors developing, and enhance the protective factors that can shield youngsters from problems. The risk and protective factors are used to implement a comprehensive plan to step ahead of problems with far-reaching and long-lasting solutions.

The CTC Vision

Norristown Area Communities That Care for Youth (CTC) brings together community residents and leaders to prevent substance use and violence in order to secure a more safe, caring and educated environment in which youth can live and grow to be productive members of our community.

CTC Service Area

Norristown Area Communities That Care focuses on reducing risk factors for youth in the Greater Norristown Area (East Norriton Township, West Norriton Township and the Municipality of Norristown) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

What's New at Norristown CTC

The Norristown Violence Prevention Initiative is gathering information from community members to get a clear picture of what Norristown municipality residents are feeling and thinking in regards to violence and gang involvement. We feel this is very important in light of the recent shootings.

As you complete this survey, please keep this definition of a “gang” in mind: A gang is a group or association of three or more people who may have a common identifying sign, symbol or name, and who individually or collectively engage in criminal activity, which creates an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

Norristown Area CTC is committed to the prevention of substance abuse and violence in the greater Norristown area. You can anonymously report problem areas in your neighborhood by downloading the Hot Spot Report Form and submitting it to your local police department. This form is available for download in English and Spanish (Microsoft Word file). You can also e-mail the completed form to info@norristownctc.org and the CTC staff will deliver it, confidentially, to your local police department. Note: Please be sure to save the completed form to your computer and then attach it to your e-mail.

The Youth Subcommittee of Norristown Area CTC For Youth, in partnership with Norristown Area Fight Against Drugs at Norristown Area High School, replicated the national anti-drug media campaign highlighting local youth leaders at community locations with personalized messages. A variety of substance abuse prevention posters focusing on youth and parents are available in English and Spanish.
